The questions are legitimate — they deserve a straight answer

A healthcare security team asking "can we let an AI system investigate alerts that might touch PHI" is not being cautious for its own sake. It is asking exactly the question HIPAA's Security Rule exists to force: who touches protected health information, under what safeguard, and with what accountability. Any vendor that treats that question as an obstacle to be smoothed over rather than answered directly is not a vendor a healthcare SOC should trust with the answer.

This is not a urgentic-specific set of questions. Every AI-driven security tool touching a healthcare environment needs to answer the same ones, and the honest answer for any of them is "it depends on the architecture," not a blanket yes.

What actually needs examining

Three questions matter more than the rest. First: does the investigation pipeline treat alert and log data as something it processes on the customer's behalf, or as something it owns and can use however it likes? The former is a processor relationship, which is what a Business Associate Agreement is built around; the latter is not something a healthcare organisation should accept from any vendor.

Second: where does the data go, and is that disclosed plainly rather than buried in a generic privacy policy? "The investigation runs against your own connected systems and the findings are stored in your own environment" is a very different answer from "your data trains our models" or "we cannot tell you which third parties see it."

Third: is there an audit trail for what the AI looked at and why it reached the conclusion it did? An investigation that produces a decision with no visible reasoning is not auditable, and HIPAA compliance depends on being able to demonstrate what happened to protected data, not just assert that it was handled correctly.

How urgentic answers those three questions

urgentic acts as a processor of the security data it investigates, under the terms of each customer's own agreement — the platform is not the owner of that data and does not use it beyond running the investigation it was asked to run. The site is GDPR compliant and HIPAA ready today; SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 audits are in progress and not yet complete, which is stated plainly rather than implied to already be finished, because a healthcare buyer checking that claim deserves the accurate answer, not the flattering one.

Every investigation produces a written evidence trail — what was observed, what context was pulled, what it was matched against, and why the resulting recommendation follows from it — specifically because "trust the AI's judgement" is not an adequate answer for a compliance-driven environment. The trail is the answer.

Automating responsibly means keeping the humans where they belong

None of this is about removing accountability from a healthcare security team — it is about removing repetitive manual work from the analysts who retain that accountability. Automation reduces risk when it replaces the parts of investigation that are mechanical and evidence-gathering; it introduces risk when it replaces judgement calls that genuinely need a person's experience and institutional context. A healthcare SOC evaluating any autonomous investigation platform should expect a clear line drawn between those two categories, and should be able to see exactly where that line sits before rolling it out — not discover it afterward.
